Test Description

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.

  1. Turn the ignition off while the wiper arms are not in the park position. If the wiper arms go to the park position and stop when the ignition is turned on, an internal fault in the windshield wiper/washer switch or short to voltage in the pigtail harness is present.

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch OFF.

Are the windshield wipers always on?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn the ignition OFF while the wiper arms are in the upright position.
  2. Disconnect the inline harness connector C201.
  3. Remove the connector terminal row E from the steering column harness connector half.
  4. Connect the inline harness connector C201.
  5. Turn the ignition ON.

Are the windshield wipers always on?

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor connector.
  2. Test the windshield wiper switch signal 1 circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the windshield wiper motor high speed circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.

Is the repair complete?

Inspect for poor connections at the windshield wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Replace the windshield wiper motor cover.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 11

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
