Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 12858 Size: SH
  1. Assemble the new O-rings into the inlet and the outlet of the fuel injector assembly.
  2. Caution: Always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male pipe ends before connecting the fuel pipe fittings in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.

  3. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube ends.
  4. Install the fuel feed pipes and the return pipes to the injector assembly.

  5. Object Number: 12855 Size: SH
  6. Install the fuel pipe retainer and the attaching nuts.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the rear fuel pipe bracket retaining bolt.
  9. Tighten

    1. Tighten the bolt to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
    2. Tighten the nuts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

    Object Number: 583167 Size: SH
  10. Install the new O-rings on the engine compartment fuel feed pipes and the return pipes.
  11. Install the chassis pipes (4) to the engine compartment pipes (5).
  12. Tighten
Tighten the fittings to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  13. Install the fuel pipes to the bellhousing stud clip (3).
  14. Tighten
Tighten the clip nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  15. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  17. Test for fuel leaks using the following procedure:
  18. 11.1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
11.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
11.3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
    11.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  19. Install the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement .
