CAMPAIGN: WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP FAILURE - INSTALL SHIELD

Model and Year: 1985 AND 1986 CHEVROLET "C/K" MODEL LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS

TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

General Motors has become aware of a condition on 1985 and some 1986 Chevrolet "C/K" Model Light Duty Trucks where the windshield washer pump motor, located behind the plastic reservoir, may become corroded and shorten the life of the motor. A crimp between the inner and outer fender could divert water onto the pump during a car wash or heavy rain or over-filling of the washer jar could cause drenching of the pump motor, thus causing the pump motor to corrode.

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, involved owners will be mailed a plastic shield to be installed on the reservoir to prevent the possibility of water entering the pump.

In addition, a special policy adjustment will be provided on the washer pump for 5 years from vehicle in-service date on all involved vehicles.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are all 1985 Chavrolet "C/K" model trucks and certain 1986 Chevrolet "C/K" model trucks built within the following breakpoints:

Dear Chevrolet Owner:

General Motore has become aware of a condition on 1985 and some 1986 Chevrolet C/K Model Light Duty Trucks where the windshield washer pump motor, located behind the plastic reservoir, may become corroded and shorten the life of the motor. A crimp between the inner and outer fender could divert water onto the pump during a car wash or heavy rain or overfilling of the washer jar could cause drenching of the pump motor, thus causing the pump motor to corrode.

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring on your vehicle, a moisture deflector shield has been included with this notice. Installation of this shield will divert water/washer fluid away from the pump motor assembly. Please follow the service procedure outlined on the back of this letter for the proper installation of this shield. Your Chevrolet dealer will install the shield for you at no charge if you so desire.

We urge you to install or have this shield installed as quickly as possible in order to avoid damage to the washer pump.

If, due to corrosion, the windshield washer pump on your vehicle should need to be replaced within a period of 5 years from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, Chevrolet will replace the pump at no charge. In the event your Chevrolet truck encounters a failure within the time stated above, please contact your Chevrolet dealer. Instructions have been furnished to Chevrolet dealers for repairing the condition and handling this Special Policy. Parts are currently available through your dealer.

If you have previously encountered these conditions and paid for all or part of the repairs, you should contact your Chevrolet dealer, who will advise you with regard to obtaining reimbursement. You should present the dealer with your original paid receipts or invoices verifying expenses incurred for such repairs.

We suggest you retain this letter and store it in the glove compartment, along with the Owner's Manual, Maintenance Guide, and Warranty Folder.

The enclosed Owner Reply Card identifies your vehicle. Presenting the card to your dealer will assist in completing the services in the shorttest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please complete the postage-paid card and return it to us. This will assist us in notifying other affected owners.

Chevrolet is taking this action in the interest of your continued satia- faction with our products.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
