  1. Disconnect the connector at the suspect shock.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Ensure the selectable ride switch is in the ON or FIRM position.
  4. Using the J 35616 Adapter, connect a test lamp between the selectable ride switch control circuit of the suspect shock to a good ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Using the J 35616 , connect a test lamp between ground of the suspect shock to a battery positive voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Important: Take care not to damage the pins in the connector.

Using a DMM and J 35616 , measure the resistance of the suspect shock.

    • Front--The red probe to the center pin of the shock and the black probe to the rod of the shock.
    • Rear--The red probe to terminal A, and the black to terminal B.

Does the resistance measure near the specified range?

11-21 ohms

  1. Inspect for corrosion within the shock connector. Refer to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Reconnect the shock connector.

Replace the shock absorber. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement in Front Suspension or Shock Absorber Replacement in Rear Suspension.

Repair the open in the selectable ride switch control circuit between the shock and the engine wiring harness junction block. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open in the shock ground circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
