Schematic Reference: Instrument Cluster Schematics

DEFINITION: This diagnostic procedure applies only to the serial data gages located in the instrument cluster which include the engine coolant temperature gage, and the transmission fluid temperature gage.

Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster

  1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. With the scan tool, perform the Displays Test in the IPC scan tool Output Controls.

Does the gage move from 0 to its maximum value and back to 0 when you perform the Displays Test?

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Observe the appropriate parameter in the PCM Data list. Refer to Scan Tool Data List .

Does the parameter match the gage display?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 4.3L, Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L, Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 6.6L, or Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 8.1L

Go to Step 4

Important: Program the replacement instrument panel cluster (IPC).

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 5

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear any induced DTCs.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK

Go to Step 2
