Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 36511 Oil Fill/Drain Plug Hex Bit (17 MM)

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 105611  Size: SH
  3. Using J 36511 remove the oil fill and drain plugs. Catch the oil in a suitable container.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 4730  Size: SH
  1. Apply sealant to the oil drain plug threads. Use sealant GM P/N 12346004 or the equivalent.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Using J 36511 install the oil drain plug.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the oil drain plug to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).

  5. Fill the transmission to the level of the fill plug hole. Refer to Lubrication Specifications

  6. Object Number: 4730  Size: SH
  7. Apply sealant to the oil fill plug threads. Use sealant GM P/N 12346004 or the equivalent.

  8. Object Number: 105611  Size: SH
  9. Using J 36511 install the oil fill plug.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the oil fill plug to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).

  11. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
