  1. Place the transmission in park (A/T) or actuate the clutch pedal (M/T).
  2. Move the ignition switch to the START position.
  3. Measure the voltage between the starter solenoid terminal S and an engine ground.

Is the reading equal to the specified battery voltage value?

  1. Remove the starter relay from the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC).
  2. Connect a test lamp from the starter relay socket cavity 30 to ground.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Disconnect CKT 6 (PPL) from the starter solenoid terminal S.
  2. Connect a self-powered test lamp from the starter relay socket cavity 30 to the starter solenoid end of CKT 6 (PPL).

  1. Connect CKT 6 (PPL) at the starter solenoid.
  2. Connect a self-powered test lamp between starter relay socket cavity 86 to ground.

  2. Move the ignition switch to the START position.
  3. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the voltage between the starter relay socket cavity 85 to ground.

  1. Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch connector.
  2. Move the ignition switch to the START position.
  3. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the voltage between the clutch pedal position switch connector cavity A to ground.

Is the reading equal to the specified battery voltage value?

12.0 V

  1. Engage the parking brake.
  2. Actuate the clutch pedal.
  3. Place the transmission in neutral.
  4. Connect a fused jumper between the clutch pedal position switch connector cavity C to cavity D.
  5. Move the ignition switch to the START position.

Does the engine crank?

  1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
  2. Move the ignition switch to the START position.
  3. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the voltage between the park/neutral position switch connector cavity E to ground.

Is the reading equal to the specified battery voltage value?

  1. Connect a fused jumper between park/neutral position switch connector cavity E to cavity G.
  2. Move the ignition switch to the START position.

  2. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the voltage between the crank fuse to ground.

  1. Clean the starter motor, the starter motor mounting surfaces, and the mounting bolts.
  2. Repeat the test.
  3. If the starter motor does not pass the test, replace the starter motor.

  1. Install the starter relay.
  2. Repair the open in the UBEC between the IGN A maxi fuse and the starter relay.

  2. Repair the open in CKT 6 (PPL) between the starter relay and the starter solenoid.
