FORMAT

IN SEPTEMBER, 1993 A NEW SERVICE BULLETIN FORMAT WAS INTRODUCED. THIS GM SERVICE BULLETIN FORMAT REPLACED THE INDIVIDUAL FORMATS PREVIOUSLY USED BY BUICK, CADILLAC, CHEVROLET, GM OF CANADA, GMC TRUCK, OLDSMOBILE AND PONTIAC FOR THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF SERVICE BULLETINS:

- TECHNICAL - INFORMATION - SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - EXCHANGE PROGRAM - SPECIAL POLICY - WARRANTY ADMINISTRATION

DIVISIONS AFFECTED BY EACH BULLETIN ARE EASILY IDENTIFIABLE BY LOOKING AT THE DIVISIONAL LOGO LINE NEAR THE TOP OF THE BULLETIN. YOU WILL RECEIVE ONLY THOSE BULLETINS THAT APPLY TO YOUR DEALERSHIP.

FOR U.S. DEALERS, INITIAL MAILING QUANTITIES WERE ESTABLISHED BASED ON THE HIGHEST QUANTITY THE DEALERSHIP AND ITS TECHNICIANS WERE PREVIOUSLY RECEIVING FROM ANY DIVISION. THE **MINIMUM** QUANTITY PROVIDED TO ANY DEALERSHIP IS 3.

WHEN YOU RECEIVE SERVICE BULLETINS, PLEASE VERIFY THE CONTENTS AND QUANTITIES AGAINST THE PACKING LIST SHOWN ON THE MAILING LABEL. PLEASE REPORT ANY DISCREPANCIES DIRECTLY TO XPRESS1 AT 1-800-783-3034 WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS.

TO CHANGE THE QUANTITY OF SERVICE BULLETINS YOU RECEIVE, PLEASE CALL XPRESS1 AT 1-800-783-3034.

HOW TO FILE GM SERVICE BULLETINS

GM SERVICE BULLETINS SHOULD BE FILED IN GM SERVICE BULLETIN BINDERS. EACH BULLETIN HAS A SECTION NAME AND NUMBER (BEGINNING JUNE, 1994) PRINTED AT THE TOP RIGHT CORNER. THIS SECTION NAME WILL MATCH ONE OF THE TABS IN THE BINDER. WE RECOMMEND THAT SERVICE BULLETINS BE FILED BEHIND THE TAB THAT MATCHES THE FILE NAME TITLE SHOWN ON THE BULLETIN, AND THEN IN NUMERICAL ORDER WITHIN THAT GROUP.

**NOTE:** BECAUSE NOT EVERY DEALERSHIP WILL RECEIVE EVERY BULLETIN, ---- THERE MAY BE GAPS BETWEEN BULLETIN NUMBERS. YOU MUST USE THE GM SERVICE BULLETIN INDEX TO CHECK FOR MISSING BULLETINS. (SEE INDEX SECTION BELOW.)

IN ORDER TO OBTAIN THE GREATEST BENEFIT FROM THE GM SERVICE BULLETINS, **STOP FILING BY MODEL YEAR.** WHEN VEHICLES ARE BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE, IF THERE IS A BULLETIN THAT CAN HELP TO RESOLVE THE CONDITION, IT WILL BE FOUND IN THE CORRESPONDING FILE SECTION, REGARDLESS OF MODEL YEAR. THE INDEX, WHICH MATCHES THE RECOMMENDED FILING METHOD, WILL HELP THE TECHNICIAN LOCATE A SPECIFIC BULLETIN. (SEE "HOW TO FIND A BULLETIN.")

USING ONE SET OF DIVIDER TABS, AND THE SELF-ADHESIVE SECTION LABELS, YOUR SERVICE BULLETIN LIBRARY CAN BE EXPANDED TO MORE THAN ONE BINDER AS NEEDED. FOR EXAMPLE, ONE BINDER MIGHT CONTAIN SECTIONS 0 (GENERAL INFORMATION) THROUGH 6 (ENGINE), AND THE NEXT WOULD CONTAIN THE REMAINING SECTIONS. IN THIS MANNER, YOUR COMPREHENSIVE SERVICE BULLETIN LIBRARY WILL GROW TO ENCOMPASS ALL IN-WARRANTY VEHICLES SERVICED BY YOUR DEALERSHIP.

HOW TO FIND A GM SERVICE BULLETIN

1. USE THE LATEST CUMULATIVE INDEX AND ONE OR TWO MONTHLY INDEXES AS NECESSARY. (SEE INDEX SECTION BELOW. FOR OLDER VEHICLES, REMEMBER TO CHECK PRIOR YEARS' CUMULATIVE INDEXES AS WELL.)

2. DECIDE WHICH SECTION NAME IN THE INDEX IS MOST LIKELY TO CONTAIN BULLETINS CONCERNING THE CONDITION YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO CORRECT.

3. SCAN THE BULLETIN LISTINGS IN THAT SECTION OF THE INDEX FOR THE MODEL YEAR, SUBJECT, DIVISION AND PLATFORM.

4. WHEN YOU HAVE SELECTED A LIKELY BULLETIN FROM THE INDEX, FIND THE BULLETIN IN THAT SECTION OF THE BINDER ACCORDING TO ITS NUMBER.

NOTE: DEPENDING ON THE CONDITION, YOU MAY WANT TO SCAN BULLETIN LISTINGS UNDER MORE THAN ONE SECTION OF THE INDEX.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THESE BULLETINS ARE ALSO PROVIDED TO YOU IN THE MONTHLY CD ROM UPDATES FOR YOUR TECHLINE EQUIPMENT. ALSO, THE DCS TECHNICAL INFORMATION OPTION PROVIDES AN ADDITIONAL METHOD FOR ACCESSING BULLETINS ELECTRONICALLY. DCS TECHNICAL INFORMATION WILL CONTAIN THE MOST RECENT BULLETINS THAT HAVE NOT YET BEEN RECEIVED AT DEALERSHIPS IN EITHER PAPER OR CD ROM FORMAT. THESE ELECTRONIC FORMATS PROVIDE FAST, EASY ACCESS TO THE SPECIFIC BULLETIN A TECHNICIAN IS SEEKING. PAPER BULLETINS CONTINUE TO PROVIDE EASY ACCESS AND VALUABLE BACK-UP, PARTICULARLY WITH REGARD TO ILLUSTRATIONS.

GM SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER STRUCTURE

SAMPLE NUMBER: 33-01-05

NOTE: BEGINNING WITH THIS BULLETIN, ALL GM SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBERS WILL CONTAIN DASHES TO MAKE IT EASIER TO IDENTIFY THE BULLETIN CATEGORY NUMBERS.

3 3-01-05 | | | | | CALENDAR YEAR WHEN ORIGINALLY WRITTEN (93)-->| | | | | | | AUTHOR CODE (SEE LIST BELOW) ------------->| | | | | BULLETIN CATEGORY (SEE CHART BELOW) ------->| | | SEQUENCE NUMBER, WITHIN GROUP, FROM | THIS AUTHORING ORGANIZATION ------------->|

IF A SERVICE BULLETIN IS REVISED FOR ANY REASON, ITS NUMBER WILL REMAIN THE SAME AND A LETTER WILL BE ADDED AT THE END TO IDENTIFY THE REVISION STATUS (EXAMPLE: 33-01-05A). IN ADDITION, A REVISION STATEMENT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE BULLETIN WILL EXPLAIN THE CHANGES MADE AND IDENTIFY THE BULLETIN THAT IS TO BE DISCARDED WHEN THE REVISED BULLETIN IS FILED.

GENERAL MOTORS BULLETINS ARE INTENDED FOR USE BY PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIANS, NOT A "DO-IT-YOURSELFER". THEY ARE WRITTEN TO INFORM THOSE TECHNICIANS OF CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR ON SOME VEHICLES, OR TO PROVIDE INFORMATION THAT COULD ASSIST IN THE PROPER SERVICE OF A VEHICLE. PROPERLY TRAINED TECHNICIANS HAVE THE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND KNOW-HOW TO DO A JOB PROPERLY AND SAFELY. IF A CONDITION IS DESCRIBED, DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE BULLETIN APPLIES TO YOUR VEHICLE, OR THAT YOUR VEHICLE WILL HAVE THAT CONDITION. SEE A GENERAL MOTORS DEALER SERVICING YOUR BRAND OF GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE FOR INFORMATION ON WHETHER YOUR VEHICLE MAY BENEFIT FROM THE INFORMATION.
