Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Connect the ground strap to the engine.
  5. Tighten

        • Tighten the ground strap to the generator (Gas) nut to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
        • Tighten the ground strap to the engine (Gas) bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
        • Tighten the ground strap to the generator (6.5 L) bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
        • Tighten the ground strap to the engine nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
        • Tighten the ground strap to the generator (7.2 L) bolt to 11 N·m (97 lb in).
        • Tighten the ground strap to the engine (7.2 L) bolt to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).
  6. Additional ground straps are used for the body. Frame, engine and transmission harnesses connect all ground straps to ensure a good ground path to the battery from all electrical components.
