The design of the pressure regulator valve changed with the introduction of the 2002 model year transmissions.

Important: Shift quality of a repaired transaxle will be compromised if attention is not paid to the pressure regulator valve, spacer plate and gaskets.

Object Number: 787829 Size: SF

The pressure regulator valve (1) shown at the above left is the design used through the 2001 model year. The arrows point to the cross drilling within the valve.

The pressure regulator valve (2) shown at the right is of the 2002 and newer valve which is a solid valve, not cross drilled.

Object Number: 55196 Size: LF

Shown above is the valve body and the internal components of the 2001 and prior model years valve body.

The pressure regulator valve is #328. This pressure regulator valve is cross drilled as shown above. In addition, you will see the 2-3 accumulator bore with its components, #329 and 330. The service replacement valve body kit, P/N 24224399, for the 1995-2001 transaxles is of this same configuration. The pressure regulator valve in the service replacement valve body is not cross drilled and requires installation of the spacer plate and gaskets supplied with kit, P/N 24224399.

Object Number: 849831 Size: LF

Shown above is the valve body and the internal components of the 2002 - 2003 valve body.

The pressure regulator valve is #328. The pressure regulator valve is not cross drilled. You will also see that the 2-3 accumulator bore and its components are no longer present.

When servicing a 1995 through 2001 4T40E/4T45E transaxle, the pressure regulator valve #328 must be changed (it is included in the overhaul kit, P/N 24224525). Also included in this overhaul kit is the new spacer plate and gaskets required when the pressure regulator valve is replaced in the valve body.

Important Note:

1995 - 2001

Overhaul Kit

24224525

A new solid (non-cross drilled) pressure regulator valve, and the new style spacer plate, all gaskets, seals, and plates

When Valve body part number 24224399 is used, you must use spacer plate and gasket kit number 24224336.

2002 - 2003

Overhaul Kit

24224526

All gaskets, seals, and plates

Do not use spacer plate and gasket kit 24224336 on a 2002 or 2003 transaxle. Incorrect pressures will result and the transaxle will not operate properly.

1995-2001

Spacer Plate and Gasket Kit

24224336

This kit contains (2) spacer plate gaskets, (1) service only spacer plate gasket, and a non-cross drilled pressure regulator valve.

1995 - 2001

Service Replacement Valve Body Kit

24224399

Includes the Service Replacement Valve Body with the new solid pressure regulator valve , spacer plate and gaskets, which must be used together or incorrect transaxle operation will result.

When repairing a 1995 - 2001 Transaxle, you must use the spacer plate and gasket kit supplied with this service replacement valve body kit.
