DTC Descriptor

DTC B0998: Screen 1 EEPROM Failure

DTC B0999: Screen 2 EEPROM Failure

Circuit/System Description

The EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) is part of the printed circuit board housed within the DVD screen. It stores variables required for the operation of the rear seat entertainment system.

Conditions for Running DTC

The DVD screen runs the program to detect an internal fault or compatibility concern when power up is commanded. The only requirements are voltage and ground. This program runs even if the voltage is out of the valid operating range.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTCs B0998 and B0999 will set if the EEPROM checksum is incorrect. The testing of the EEPROM checksum occurs every time the ignition is turned on. The DTC is reset when the EEPROM checksum is tested as being correct. The DTC is logged as a History DTC.

DTC B0999 is only applicable to level 5 vehicles with DVD screens mounted within the rear seats and applies to the second of the two screens.

Action Taken When DTC Sets

The system will set the DTC and disable itself.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for setting the DTC is no longer present.
    • The history DTC will clear after 50 fault-free ignition cycles.
