Tools Required

    • EN 46111 Crankshaft Rotation Socket
    • J 45059 Angle Meter

    Important: Make sure that the crankshaft is in the timing drive assembly position using the EN 46111 .

  1. Make sure the cylinder head locating pins are securely mounted in the cylinder block deck face.

  2. Object Number: 1958865  Size: SH
  3. Install a NEW right cylinder head gasket (1) using the deck face locating pins for retention.

  4. Object Number: 1958862  Size: SH
  5. Align the right cylinder head (2) with the deck face locating pins.
  6. Place the right cylinder head (2) in position on the deck face.
  7. Important: DO NOT allow oil on the cylinder head bolt bosses.

    Important: DO NOT reuse the old M11 cylinder head bolts.

  8. Loosely install the NEW M11 and M8 cylinder head to cylinder block retaining bolts (1).
  9. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  10. Tighten the cylinder head to cylinder block retaining bolts in the sequence shown.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the M11 cylinder head to cylinder block retaining bolts a first pass in sequence to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

    6.1. Back off the M11 cylinder head to cylinder block retaining bolts 120 degrees using the J 45059 .
    6.2. Tighten the M11 cylinder head to cylinder block retaining bolts a second pass in sequence to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
    6.3. Tighten the M11 cylinder head to cylinder block retaining bolts a third pass in sequence an additional 150 degrees using the J 45059 .
  12. Install the 2 front M8 left cylinder head to cylinder block retaining bolts (9, 10).
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the M8 cylinder head to cylinder block retaining bolts (9, 10) a first pass to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

    Tighten the M8 cylinder head to cylinder block retaining bolts (9, 10) a second pass in sequence an additional 60 degrees using the J 45059 .
