PINCHED TCC SOLENOID WIRES TCC INOP THM 700-R4

Beginning November 1, 1982, all THM 700-R4 transmissions were built with a special washer on the valve body. This washer is used to hold the TCC solenoid wires in place to prevent pinching them during assembly and testing (see Figure 1).

SERVICE INFORMATION

1. This washer is for assembly plant use only and is not a service part.

2. If a transmission was built with this washer, reuse it during service to reduce the possibility of pinched solenoid wires.

3. If this washer is used, be certain to route the TCC solenoid wires around it as shown in Figure 1.

NOTICE: For transmissions built without this part, do not try to add a washer during service. (If a washer any thicker than the production part is used, then the case threads may strip out when the valve body bolt is torqued.)

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
