Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool


    Object Number: 309963  Size: SH
  1. If equipped with a manual transmission remove the clutch pressure plate and driven disc. Refer to Clutch Pressure Plate and Clutch Driven Plate in Clutch.
  2. Remove the automatic transmission, if equipped. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E.
  3. Use J 37096 to hold the flywheel to loosen the flywheel bolts.
  4. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the flywheel bolts (1).

  5. Object Number: 441112  Size: SH
  6. If equipped with the manual transmission, remove the following components:
  7. 5.1. Remove the flywheel bolts (1).
    5.2. Remove the flywheel (2).

  8. If equipped with a automatic transmission, remove the following components:
  9. 6.1. Remove the flywheel bolts (1).
    6.2. Remove the flywheel (2).

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool
    • J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter

  1. If equipped with a automatic transmission, install the following components:
  2. 1.1. Install the flywheel (2).
    1.2. Install the flywheel bolts (1) finger tight.

  3. If equipped with a manual transmission, install the following components:
  4. 2.1. Install the flywheel (2).
    2.2. Install the flywheel bolts (1) finger tight.

  5. Use J 37096 to hold the flywheel when tightening the flywheel bolts.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Tighten the flywheel bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the flywheel bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft). Using J 36660-A torque the flywheel bolts an additional 50 degrees.

  9. Install the automatic transmission, if equipped. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E.
  10. If equipped with a manual transmission, install the clutch pressure plate and driven disc. Refer to Clutch Pressure Plate and Clutch Driven Plate in Clutch.
