Exhaust Muffler Insulator, Hanger, and Bracket Replacement 3.8L V6

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 222976  Size: SH
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Support the exhaust muffler.
  3. Remove the exhaust muffler hanger bolts.

  4. Object Number: 222982  Size: SH
  5. Remove the exhaust muffler rubber hanger from the muffler.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 222982  Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust muffler rubber hanger to the muffler.

  2. Object Number: 222976  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the exhaust muffler hanger bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust muffler hanger bolts to 9.5 N·m (84 lb in).

  5. Remove the exhaust muffler support.
  6. Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Support the exhaust muffler.
  3. Remove the exhaust pipe hanger nut.

  4. Object Number: 222977  Size: SH
  5. Remove the exhaust pipe hanger bracket bolts.
  6. Remove the exhaust muffler interior hanger bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 222977  Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust muffler interior hanger bracket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   3. Install the exhaust pipe hanger bracket bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust pipe hanger bracket bolts to 9.5 N·m (84 lb in).

  5. Install the exhaust pipe hanger nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust pipe hanger nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  7. Remove the support from the exhaust muffler.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
