Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 2.2L

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  2. Object Number: 281156  Size: SH
  3. Remove the compressor hose assembly bolt (2) and the washer (1).
  4. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the compressor.
  5. Remove the sealing washers.

  6. Object Number: 281163  Size: SH
  7. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the accumulator.
  8. Remove the O-ring seal.
  9. Remove the air intake resonator.

  10. Object Number: 281167  Size: SH
  11. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the condenser.
  12. Remove the O-ring seal.

  13. Object Number: 281175  Size: SH
  14. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the evaporator.
  15. Cap or plug all of the open connections.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 281175  Size: SH
  1. Remove the caps or plugs from the open connections.
  2. Install the compressor hose assembly to the evaporator.
  3. Install the air intake resonator.
  4. Install a new O-ring seal. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 281167  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the compressor hose assembly to the condenser.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the hose to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  8. Install a new O-ring seal. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 281163  Size: SH
  10. Install the compressor hose assembly to the accumulator.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the hose to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  12. Install the sealing washers. Refer to Compressor Sealing Washers Replacement .

  13. Object Number: 281156  Size: SH
  14. Install the compressor hose assembly to the compressor.
  15. Install the compressor hose assembly washer (1) and the bolt (2).
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

  17. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  18. Leak test the fittings of the components using the J 39400-A .

Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 4.3L

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  2. Object Number: 281159  Size: SH
  3. Remove the compressor hose assembly bolt (1) and the washer (2).
  4. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the compressor.
  5. Remove the sealing washers.

  6. Object Number: 3467  Size: SH
  7. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the accumulator.
  8. Remove the O-ring seal and discard.
  9. Remove the lower radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  10. Object Number: 281172  Size: SH
  11. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the condenser.
  12. Remove the O-ring seal and discard.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a new O-ring seal. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 281172  Size: SH

  8. Install the compressor hose assembly to the accumulator.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the hose to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  10. Install the sealing washers. Refer to Compressor Sealing Washers Replacement .

  11. Object Number: 281159  Size: SH
  12. Install the compressor hose assembly to the compressor.
  13. Install the compressor hose assembly washer (2) and the bolt (1).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

  15. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  16. Leak test the fittings of the components using the J 39400-A .
