Description

AIR Pump Relay & Solenoid

AIR System

Activates the relay that turns ON the secondary air injection (AIR) pump. The pump will run for a maximum of 30 seconds before timer is exceeded. Output control will be disabled for 30 seconds before the operation is allowed again.

AIR Solenoid

AIR System

Activates the secondary air injection (AIR) solenoid ON. The AIR solenoid will remain ON until cancelled by the scan tool.

AIR System

Activates the secondary air injection (AIR) pump relay and AIR solenoid ON in order to allow complete system operation. Fuel control is not disabled during this functional test. The AIR system will operate for a maximum of 30 seconds using this function.

Crankshaft Position Variation Learn

Light Duty Truck

Enables the powertrain control module (PCM) to learn the variations in the crankshaft position (CKP) system. The PCM will learn the variations once the following conditions are met.

  1. The engine coolant temperature (ECT) is more than a specified value.
  2. All instructions on the scan tool have been complete.
  3. The accelerator pedal smoothly applied until the fuel cut-off, as specified on the scan tool, is achieved, and then immediately released.

The PCM learns the variation values on the deceleration from fuel cut-off.

Cylinder Power Balance

Fuel System

Enables/Disables a cylinder by turning OFF the fuel injector to the cylinder. The fuel injector is normally enabled. The powertrain control module (PCM) disables the fuel injector when the following conditions are met.

  1. All instructions on the scan tool are complete.
  2. Stabilized engine speed.
  3. Fuel injector selected.

When the DISABLE is selected, the PCM turns the injector OFF for 15 seconds. During this period, the engine operates with a misfire.

EVAP Purge/Seal

Engine Output Controls/EVAP System

Activates both the evaporative emission (EVAP) purge solenoid and the vent solenoid to seal the system. The normal commanded state of both valves is NONE. Device control will be aborted and inhibited if fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor exceeds 38 mm Hg (20 in H2O).

EVAP Purge Solenoid (PWM)

Engine Output Controls/EVAP System

Activates the purge solenoid in 10 percent increments from 0 to 100 percent. The normal commanded state is NONE. Device control will be aborted and inhibited if the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor exceeds 38 mm Hg (20 in H2O).

EVAP Vent Solenoid

Engine Output Controls/EVAP System

Activates the vent solenoid. The normal commanded state is NONE. Device control will be aborted and inhibited if FTP sensor exceeds 38 mm Hg (20 in H2O).

Fuel Injector Balance

Fuel System

Enables fuel injector in order to verify proper fuel injector flow. The powertrain control module (PCM) will pulse the selected injector when the following conditions are met.

  1. All instructions on the scan tool are complete.
  2. Fuel injector selected.
  3. Key ON, engine OFF.

The selected fuel injector can only be flowed/pulsed once per ignition cycle.

Fuel Pump

Engine Output Controls

Activates the fuel pump ON or OFF. The fuel pump will remain ON until cancelled by the scan tool and/or will be aborted and/or inhibited if vehicle speed is present.

Fuel Trim Reset

Fuel System

Activates the reset of fuel trim data in all fuel trim cells.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp

Engine Output Controls

Activates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). The MIL will remain illuminated until cancelled by the scan tool.

RPM Control

IAC System

Activates the idle air control (IAC) valve to change engine RPM. The normal commanded state is NONE. To enable the RPM control , all instruction on the scan tool must be completed. The system will INCREASE or DECREASE the RPM within a range of 400-2000 RPM. The SET UP VALUE changes the RPM by increments of 25 RPM, 100 RPM, and 500 RPM. The system remains in the commanded state until cancelled by the tool.
