Verify that the blower motor high speed is inoperative.

Does the blower motor operate normally?

  1. Disconnect the blower motor relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp between blower motor relay connector cavity 86 (CKT 52) and battery ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  4. Turn the mode selector switch to the HEAT position.
  5. Turn the blower switch to the HIGH position.

Does the test lamp light?

Connect a test lamp between heater and A/C controller connector C4 cavity A and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Repair the open in CKT 52 (ORN).

Is the repair complete?

Replace the heater and A/C controller. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement .

Connect a test lamp between blower motor relay connector cavity 86 (CKT 52) and cavity 85 (CKT 850).

Does the test lamp light?

Repair the open in CKT 850 (BLK) between the blower motor relay and S118.

Is the repair complete?

Connect a fused jumper wire to blower motor relay connector cavity 87 (CKT 540) and cavity 30 (CKT 65).

Does the blower motor operate?

Replace the blower motor relay.

Inspect the HVAC fuse in the underhood fuse block.

Is the fuse open?

Repair the open or high resistance in CKT 540 (ORN).

  1. Disconnect the blower motor relay.
  2. Remove HVAC fuse.
  3. Install the J 8681-A .

Does the circuit breaker cycle?

  1. Repair the short to ground in CKT 540 (ORN).
  2. Replace the HVAC fuse.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Repair the intermittent short to ground in CKT 540 (ORN).
