REAR SEAT MOVEMENT/NOISE INSTALL DUAL CABLE RELEASE KIT

Subject: REAR SEAT MOVEMENT/NOISE

Model and Year: 1991-92 S/T 4-DOOR UTILITY

Owners of some 1991 and 1992 S/T 4-door utility vehicles may comment that their vehicle exhibits a condition where the seat back assembly has movement or a rattle which is perceived to be an improperly latched seat assembly.

The seat is designed with a cable-released latch on the left side and an inertia latch mechanism on the right side. The inertia latch mechanism allows movement of the right side of the seat unless a high deceleration stop, due to braking or a frontal impact, is experienced.

In an effort to improve overall customer satisfaction, a revision has been made to the design that provides a cable release latch to both the right and left sides of the rear seat back. The dual cable release mechanism was incorporated in vehicles built after the following VIN breakpoint:

N2155596

If a customer experiences this condition and expresses concern even after the latch operation is explained, the dual cable release mechanism may be installed in vehicles built prior to the above breakpoints.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

FOLLOW INSTRUCTION SHEETS PROVIDED IN DUAL CABLE RELEASE KIT (P/N 15693919). If, after kit installation, the seat back is difficult to release, it may be necessary to increase the clearance of the seat back to the wheelhouse. This can be accomplished by the installation of two (2) 2 mm (1/16 in) spacers (P/N 20432548). Install 1 spacer over each of the left hinge mounting studs between the floorpan and the seat hinge. Reverify seat latch operation after spacer installation.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
