Makes 🢒 Chevrolet 🢒 2009 🢒 Avalanche - 4WD 🢒 Transmission 🢒 Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E/4L65-E/4L70-E 🢒 Transmission Fluid Filler Tube and Seal Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement.

    2. Object Number: 1284301 Size: SH
  2. Unlock the transmission oil level indicator.
  3. Remove the transmission oil level indicator.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  5. Support the transmission using a suitable jack.
  6. Remove the transmission crossmember. Refer to Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement.

  7. Loosen the left exhaust pipe nuts.

    8. Object Number: 858553 Size: SH
  8. Loosen the right exhaust pipe nuts.

    9. Object Number: 394459 Size: SH
  9. Remove the transmission heat shield.
  10. Lower the transmission slightly.

    11. Object Number: 1705100 Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection.
  12. Plug the transmission oil cooler line fittings.

    13. Object Number: 396797 Size: SH
  13. Remove the indicator tube nut.

    14. Object Number: 1284303 Size: SH
  14. Remove the indicator tube bolt, if equipped with RPO HP2.

    15. Object Number: 396798 Size: SH
  15. Remove the oil level indicator tube.
  16. Remove the seal from the transmission, if necessary.

    17. Object Number: 1284302 Size: SH
  17. Remove the oil level indicator tube, if equipped with RPO HP2.
  18. Remove the seal from the transmission, if necessary.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1284302 Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW seal to the indicator tube.
  2. Install the oil level indicator tube, if equipped with RPO HP2.

    3. Object Number: 396798 Size: SH
  3. Install a NEW seal to the indicator tube.
  4. Install the oil level indicator tube.

    5. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1284303 Size: SH
  5. Install the indicator tube bolt, if equipped with RPO HP2.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).


    Object Number: 396797 Size: SH
  6. Install the indicator tube nut.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1705100 Size: SH
  7. Remove the plugs from the transmission oil cooler line fittings.
  8. Connect the transmission oil cooler lines. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection.

    9. Object Number: 394459 Size: SH
  9. Remove the transmission heat shield.

    10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 17 N·m (12 lb ft).


    Object Number: 858553 Size: SH
  10. Tighten the right exhaust pipe nuts.

    11. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).


    Object Number: 858550 Size: SH
  11. Tighten the left exhaust pipe nuts.

    12. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  12. Install the transmission crossmember. Refer to Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement.
  13. Remove the support from the transmission.
  14. Lower the vehicle.

  15. Install the transmission oil level indicator.
  16. Lock the transmission oil level indicator.
  17. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement.
