The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

On rare occasions, a minor oil leak/seep may be experienced from the #1, #2, #7, or #8 outer intake port wall of the cylinder head that is shown in the 2nd illustration below. This may be the result of a crack as shown in the 1st photo below.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If this concern is experienced, locate the white bar code label on the oil pan and/or cylinder head and note the Julian Date, which is digit positions 2-6 in the 2nd group of label digits.

If the label is not present, enter the VIN in GMVIS, click the Vehicle Component link at the top of the page, and note the first 5 digits of the Engine Traceability Number, which is actually the engine Julian Date.

If the Julian Date is 08228 (8/15/2008) or 08231 (8/18/2008), call Brand Quality Manager, Jay Dankovich at 248-672-9160 to review further direction. If he is not available, please leave him an urgent VME with the last 8 digits of the VIN, your name, and your contact information. If a return call is not received in 24 hours, or if his VME greeting indicates that he is on vacation, etc., contact his back up, Steve Bridson, at 586-596-2539.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
