    • J 24319-B Universal Steering Linkage Puller
    • J 29194 Steering Linkage Installer (14 mm)

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 340960  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Important: Use the J 24319-B in order to separate all the tie rods and ball joints.

  3. Remove the nut (2) from the outer tie rod ball stud (3).

  4. Object Number: 643351  Size: SH
  5. Use the J 24319-B in order to remove the outer tie rod ball stud from the steering knuckle.
  6. Important: Do not reuse the nut.

  7. Remove the tie rod end from the shaft by loosening the jam nut .
  8. Remove the outer tie rod end from the relay rod.

  9. Object Number: 340960  Size: SH
  10. Inspect the shaft (6) for bent or damaged threads.
  11. Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 340960  Size: SH
  1. Lubricate the tie rod threads with chassis lubricant. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  2. Install the tie rod end (4) to the shaft (6).
  3. Install the outer tie rod ball stud (3) to the steering knuckle (1).

  4. Object Number: 340960  Size: SH
  5. Install the new prevailing torque nut (2) to the outer tie rod ball stud (3).
  6. Tighten

        • Tighten the nut to 50 N·m (37 lb ft) for 15 series vehicles.
        • Tighten the nut to 65 N·m (48 lb ft) for 25/35 series vehicles.
  7. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement .
