Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 178963  Size: SH
  3. Remove the shock absorber upper mounting nut.

  4. Object Number: 178961  Size: SH
  5. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting nut and the bolt (left hand).

  6. Object Number: 178955  Size: SH
  7. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt, the nut, and park brake cable bracket (right hand).
  8. Remove the shock absorber from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the shock absorber to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 178955  Size: SH
  3. Install the shock absorber lower mounting bolt, the nut, and the parking brake bracket (right hand).

  4. Object Number: 178961  Size: SH
  5. Install the shock absorber lower mounting bolt and the nut (left hand).

  6. Object Number: 178963  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the shock absorber upper mounting nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the shock absorber upper and lower mounting nuts to 107 N·m (79 lb ft).

  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Dispose of the shock absorber. Refer to Shock Absorber Disposal .
