Verify that the hazard lamps are inoperative.

Do the hazard lamps operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Inspect the STOP/HAZ fuse in the IP fuse block.

Is the fuse open?

Go to Step 4

Test for a short to ground in the following circuits. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

    • Battery positive voltage
    • Hazard indicator supply voltage

Was a problem found?

Go to Step 8

Using a test lamp from ground, backprobe the battery positive voltage circuit to the turn/hazard switch at connector C201. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

  1. Activate the hazard switch.
  2. Using a test lamp from ground, backprobe the hazard indicator supply voltage circuit at connector C201. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test for an open or high resistance in the following circuits. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

    • Hazard indicator supply voltage
    • Turn signal flasher control
    • Turn signal flasher ground

Repair the short to ground in one of the following circuits. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

    • Battery positive voltage
    • Hazard indicator supply voltage

Repair the open or high resistance in the battery positive voltage circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in one of the following circuits. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

    • Hazard indicator supply voltage
    • Turn signal flasher control
    • Turn signal flasher ground

Replace the multifunction switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
