Important:

Perform the Diagnostic Starting Point before using the Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true:

•	There are no DTCs set.

•	The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.

Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to Starting System Circuit Description Charging System Circuit Description .

•	Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the Starting and Charging System. Refer to Checking Aftermarket Accessories in Wiring Systems.

•	Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.

Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.

•	Starter Solenoid Does Not Click

•	Starter Solenoid Clicks, Engine Does Not Crank

•	Engine Cranks/Cranks Slowly, but Does Not Start

•	Battery Electrical Drain/Parasitic Load Test

•	Charge Indicator Always On

•	Charge Indicator Inoperative

•	Voltmeter Displaying High or Low

•	Generator Noise Test

•	Ignition Coil Not Operating Properly

•	Spark Plug Visual Diagnosis

•	Spark Plug Wires Not Operating Properly
