J 41602 Body Protection Hoist Adapter Set

Removal Procedure

  1. Install the J 41602 to the hoist and raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Support the rear axle.

  3. Object Number: 178961  Size: SH
  4. Remove the lower shock absorber mounting bolt and nut.
  5. Remove the muffler. Refer to Muffler Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  6. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3L.
  7. Remove the leaf spring to hanger mounting bolt and nut (left side only).
  8. Lower the rear axle.

  10. Remove the hanger mounting nuts.
  11. Remove the hanger mounting bolts.
  12. Remove the hanger from the frame.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 178946  Size: SH
  1. Install the hanger to the frame.
  2. Install the hanger mounting bolts.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the hanger mounting nuts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the hanger mounting nuts to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  6. Raise the rear axle.
  7. Install the leaf spring to hanger mounting bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the leaf spring to hanger mounting bolt to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  9. Install the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3L.
  10. Install the muffler. Refer to Muffler Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  11. Object Number: 178961  Size: SH
  12. Install the lower shock absorber mounting bolt and nut.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the lower shock absorber mounting nut to 107 N·m (79 lb ft).

  14. Remove the rear axle support.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
