Is the Center High Mount Stop Lamp (CHMSL) inoperative?

Is the RH or LH stoplamp inoperative?

  1. Apply and hold the brake pedal.
  2. Disconnect the Center High Mount Stop Lamp (CHMSL).
  3. Using a test light, probe CKT 17 (WHT) cavity A to ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 5

Using a DMM, test for continuity on CKT 1350 (BLK) cavity B to ground.

Is there continuity?

--

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 8

Repair the open in CKT 17 (WHT) between the CHMSL and S200.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step 18

Replace the CHMSL. Refer to High Mount Stop Lamp Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

--

Replace the open in CKT 1350 (BLK) between the CHMSL and S319.

Is the repair complete?

Using a test light, back probe CKT 17 (WHT) connector C201 cavity A1 and the turn/hazard switch to ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 11

Repair open in CKT 17 (WHT) between turn/hazard switch and splice S200.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step 18

Using a test light, backprobe CKT 19 (DK GRN) cavity E6 and CKT 18 (YEL) cavity E7 at the turn/hazard switch to ground.

Does the test lamp light on both circuits?

--

Go to Step 13

Replace the turn/hazard switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 18

  1. Disconnect inoperative stoplamp.
  2. Using a test light, probe CKT 19 (DK GRN) cavity A for the right side or CKT 18 (YEL) cavity A for left side to ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 14

Using a DMM, check the following CKT's for continuity:

    • CKT 1450 (BLK) cavity G for left side to ground.
    • CKT 1350.

Is there continuity?

--

Go to Step 16

Repair open in CKT 19 (DK GRN) or CKT 18 (YEL) between the inoperative stoplamp and the turn/hazard switch.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step 18

Replace stoplamp. Refer to Tail Lamp Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 18

Repair open in CKT 1450 (BLK) between the right side stoplamp to splice S403 or CKT 1350 (BLK) between the left side stoplamp to splice S319.

Is the repair complete?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

  1. Disconnect the connector and inoperative stop lamp or center high mount stop lamp (CHMSL).
  2. Apply and hold the brake pedal.
  3. Using a test light probe CKT 17 (WHT) connector cavity A to ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Locate and repair open in CKT 17 (WHT) between connector and S400.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step  7

Using a DMM test CKT 1350 or 1450 from inoperative stop lamp or CHMSL to ground.

Is there continuity?

--

Go to Step  5

Go to Step  6

Replace the inoperative lamp. Refer to High Mount Stop Lamp Replacement or Tail Lamp Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step  7

Locate and repair open in CKT 1350 (BLK) or CKT 1450 (BLK) between inoperative stoplamp or CHMSL and S319 or S403.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step  7

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
