Important: If an action has an abnormal result that is not one of the abnormal results listed for that action, continue with the diagnostic system check until you reach the step that lists the abnormal result. The diagnostic system check lists an abnormal result after all of the conditions that may cause the abnormal result are tested. The diagnosis for the abnormal result is based upon where it is stated in the diagnostic system check. A particular diagnosis may not work if it is taken out of sequence.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Close the liftgate window and the liftgate, if open.
    • The liftgate closes and latches.
    • The liftgate window closes and latches.
    • The liftgate ajar indicator on the instrument panel extinguishes.

  1. Place the cargo lamp switch in the ON position.
  2. Place the automatic transmission in the PARK position.
  3. Depress the REAR HATCH (liftgate window release if equiped) switch located on the instrument panel.
  1. The liftgate window is released when the REAR HATCH switch is depressed.
  2. The cargo lamp illuminates with the liftgate open.

  1. Close the liftgate window.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Depress the brake pedal.
  4. Continue to keep the brake pedal depressed.

  5. Place the automatic transmission in the REVERSE position.
  6. Depress the REAR HATCH (liftgate window release) switch. The switch is located on the instrument panel.

The liftgate window is not released when the REAR HATCH switch is depressed.

  1. Place the transmission in the PARK position.
  2. Release the brake pedal.
  3. Stop the engine.
  4. Lock the side doors.
  5. Insert the ignition key in the liftgate lock switch.
  6. Operate the liftgate lock switch in order to unlock the doors.
    • The ignition key operates the liftgate lock switch.
    • The side doors unlock.

Depress the liftgate lock switch that is located on the liftgate in order to release the liftgate window.

The liftgate window releases when the liftgate lock switch is depressed.

  1. Close the liftgate window.
  2. Close and lock the left front side door.
  3. Depress the liftgate lock switch in order to release the liftgate window.

The liftgate window does not release when the liftgate lock switch is depressed.

  1. Unlock the left front side door.
  2. Place the headlamp switch in the PARK position.
  3. Adjust the panel dimmer switch to the maximum position.
  4. Observe if the liftgate window release switch illumination lamp is illuminated.
  5. Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.

The liftgate window release switch illumination lamp is illuminated with the headlamp switch in the PARK position.

  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. Observe the liftgate ajar indicator on the instrument panel.
  3. Close the liftgate.
  4. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.

The gate ajar indicator illuminates with the liftgate open.
