Special Tools

    • J 24402-A Glass Sealant Remover (Cold Knife)
    • J 39032 Stationary Glass Removal Tool
    • Urethane Adhesive Kit GM P/N 12346392 or Equivalent
    • Isopropyl Alcohol or Equivalent
    • Cartridge-type Caulking Gun
    • Commercial-type Utility Knife
    • Razor Blade Scraper
    • Plastic Paddle

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the doors.
  2. Lower the windows.
  3. Remove the trim panel rear quarter. Refer to Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement.
  4. Remove the garnish molding rear window. Refer to Rear Window Garnish Molding Replacement.
  5. Disconnect the rear window defogger connectors at the window.
  6. Warning: If a window is cracked but still intact, crisscross the window with masking tape in order to reduce the risk of damage or personal injury.

    Warning: If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.

    Note: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and inner trim of the window.

  7. Cover to protect the following parts from broken glass:
  8. • Upper dash pad
    • Defroster outlets and A/C outlets
    • Seats and carpeting

    Warning: When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury.

    Note: Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window. Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange. The only suitable lubrication is clear water.

  9. Use the J 24402-A or J 39032 in order to cut the window from the pinchweld flange. Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the glass.
  10. Do this from inside the vehicle in order to protect the outer paint surface.

  11. Remove the window from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the window into the opening. Refer to Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows.
  2. Connect the rear window defogger connections.
  3. Install the garnish molding rear window. Refer to Rear Window Garnish Molding Replacement.
  4. Install the trim panel rear quarter. Refer to Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement.
  5. Remove the protective coverings and tape from the vehicle and the headliner
  6. Raise the windows.
  7. Close the doors.
