J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the radiator support. Refer to Radiator Support Replacement .
  3. Important: Prior to removal, take note of the A/C compressor hose assembly routing and orientation between the compressor and condenser.

    Cap or tape off the open A/C components immediately to prevent system contamination.

  4. Remove the A/C compressor hose assembly bolt (1) from the A/C condenser fitting.
  5. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose assembly from the A/C condenser fitting.
  6. Remove and discard the sealing washer.
  7. Cap or tape off the A/C condenser fitting.

  9. Disconnect and remove the A/C tube connector from the evaporator outlet tube and A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .
  10. Disconnect the evaporator outlet tube (1) from the A/C compressor hose assembly (2).
  11. Cap or tape off the evaporator outlet tube (1).
  12. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  13. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  14. Remove the A/C compressor hose assembly to A/C compressor retaining nut (3).

  16. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose assembly (2) from the A/C compressor.
  17. Remove and discard the sealing washers.
  18. Cap or tape off the A/C compressor.
  19. Remove the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
  20. Lower the vehicle.
  21. Remove the A/C compressor hose assembly (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the A/C compressor hose assembly (2) to the vehicle.
  2. Install the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.

  5. Remove cap or tape from the A/C compressor.
  6. Install new sealing washers onto the compressor hose assembly. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  7. Connect the A/C compressor hose assembly (2) to the A/C compressor.
  8. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the A/C compressor hose assembly to A/C compressor retaining nut (3).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  11. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Remove cap or tape from the evaporator outlet tube (1).
  14. Install a new O-rings onto the evaporator outlet tube (1). Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  15. Connect the evaporator outlet tube (1) to the A/C compressor hose assembly (2).

  17. Install the A/C tube connector to the evaporator outlet tube and A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .
  18. Remove cap or tape from the A/C condenser fitting.
  19. Install a new sealing washer onto the compressor hose assembly. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  20. Connect the A/C compressor hose assembly to the A/C condenser fitting.

  21. Object Number: 905130  Size: SH
  22. Install the A/C compressor hose assembly bolt (1) to the A/C condenser fitting.
  23. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  24. Install the radiator support. Refer to Radiator Support Replacement .
  25. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  26. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
