Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1685834 Size: SH
  1. Remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement .
  2. Disconnect the engine purge pipe (3) from the chassis purge pipe. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  3. Cap the engine purge pipe in order to prevent possible contamination.

  4. Disconnect the chassis fuel and evaporative emission (EVAP) pipe retainer (1) from the upper front of dash mounting stud (3).
  5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  6. Remove the exhaust intermediate pipe. Refer to Intermediate Pipe Replacement .

  7. Remove the floor panel tunnel panel reinforcement. Refer to Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Reinforcement Replacement .

    8. Object Number: 329567 Size: SH
  8. Remove the EVAP canister vent valve (2) from the bracket (1).

    9. Object Number: 329558 Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the rear purge pipe (1) from the chassis purge pipe (3). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  10. Cap the rear purge pipe.

    11. Object Number: 329574 Size: SH
  11. Remove the chassis purge pipe (4) underbody retainer nuts (3).
  12. Remove the chassis purge pipe (4) from the rear underbody retainers (2).
  13. Disconnect the chassis purge pipe (4) from the side underbody retainers (6).
  14. Remove the chassis purge pipe.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 329574 Size: SH

    Caution: In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury observe the following items:

       • Replace all nylon fuel pipes that are nicked, scratched or damaged during installation, do not attempt to repair the sections of the nylon fuel pipes
       • Do not hammer directly on the fuel harness body clips when installing new fuel pipes. Damage to the nylon pipes may result in a fuel leak.
       • Always cover nylon vapor pipes with a wet towel before using a torch near them. Also, never expose the vehicle to temperatures higher than 115°C (239°F) for more than one hour, or more than 90°C (194°F) for any extended period.
       • Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male pipe ends before connecting fuel pipe fittings. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.)

    Important: 

       • Follow the same routing as the original pipe.
       • Secure the pipe in order to prevent chafing.
       • Do not kink or bend the pipe.

  1. Install the chassis purge pipe (4) into the side underbody retainers (6).
  2. Install the chassis purge pipe (4) into the rear underbody retainers (2).
  3. Install the underbody retainers on the mounting studs.

    4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the chassis purge pipe underbody retainer nuts.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the EVAP pipe retainer bracket nuts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  5. Uncap the rear EVAP pipe.
  6. Connect the rear EVAP pipe (1) to the chassis purge pipe (3). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

    7. Object Number: 329567 Size: SH
  7. Install the EVAP canister vent valve (2) to the bracket (1).

    8. Object Number: 67894 Size: SH
  8. Install the floor panel tunnel panel reinforcement. Refer to Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Reinforcement Replacement .

    9. Object Number: 1685834 Size: SH
  9. Install the exhaust intermediate pipe. Refer to Intermediate Pipe Replacement .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Uncap the engine purge pipe.
  12. Connect the chassis fuel and EVAP pipe retainer at the upper front of dash mounting stud.

    13. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel and EVAP pipe bracket retainer nut to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  13. Connect the engine purge pipe (3) to the chassis purge pipe. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  14. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement .
