J 38778 Trim Pad Clip Remover.

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Remove the front bucket seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket .

  2. Object Number: 547120  Size: SH
  3. Remove the seat back trim finish cover. Refer to Front Seat Back Cushion Cover and Cushion Pad Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 547124  Size: SH
  5. Remove the upper front seat belt post cover.
  6. Remove the two seat belt post finish cover fasteners.
  7. Important: Use the J 38778 in order to disengage the retainer on the seat belt tower finish cover.

  8. Disengage the retainer located at the center of the seat belt tower finish cover.
  9. Remove the seat belt post finish cover.
  10. Remove the shoulder belt retractor. Refer to Seat Belt Replacement - Driver or Passenger in Seat Belts.
  11. Remove the seat back cover and pad. Refer to Front Seat Back Cushion Cover and Cushion Pad Replacement .

  12. Object Number: 295159  Size: SH
  13. Disconnect the lumber electrical connector.
  14. Disconnect the side impact air bag electrical connector.

  15. Object Number: 295170  Size: SH
  16. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the heated seat, if equipped with KA1.
  17. Disconnect the air lines, if equipped with adaptive lumbar.

  18. Object Number: 334253  Size: SH
  19. Remove the seat back cover J channels on the left and the right sides and the bottom in order to access 4 fasteners (2 on the left side and 2  fasteners on the right side.

  20. Object Number: 547146  Size: SH
  21. Remove the 4 fasteners retaining the seat back frame to the recliner.
  22. Lift straight up on the seat back frame in order to disengage the seat back frame from the lower recliner assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 547146  Size: SH
  1. Slide the seat back straight down into recliner assembly and align the bolt holes.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install 4 seat back frame bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the seat back frame bolts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. Connect the heated seat electrical connectors, if equipped with KA1.
  6. Connect the air lines for the adaptive lumbar, if equipped with AC9.

  7. Object Number: 295159  Size: SH
  8. Connect the lumbar electrical connector.
  9. Connect the side impact air bag electrical connector.
  10. Install the seat back cover and pad. Refer to Front Seat Back Cushion Cover and Cushion Pad Replacement .
  11. Install the front seat belt shoulder retractor. Refer to Seat Belt Replacement - Driver or Passenger in Seat Belts.

  12. Object Number: 547120  Size: SH
  13. Install the rear seat belt post finish cover.
  14. Install the rear seat belt post finish cover fasteners.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners fully driven, seated, but not stripped.

  16. Install the seat back trim cover. Refer to Driver Seat and Passenger Seat Back Cushion Finish Panel Replacement .
  17. Install the front bucket seat into the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket .
