Headlamp Replacement SLS, w/o TT6, TT7 or TT8

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Remove the upper filler panel. Refer to Filler Panel Replacement - Upper in Body Front End.

  3. Object Number: 284581  Size: SH
  4. Remove the two fasteners retaining the headlamp to the headlamp mounting bracket.

  5. Object Number: 284806  Size: SH
  6. Pull the headlamp straight forward in order to disengage the locator pin at the outboard edge of the headlamp.

  7. Object Number: 284582  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the headlamp electrical connector from the forward lamp wiring harness.
  9. Remove the headlamp from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 284582  Size: SH
  1. Install the headlamp to the vehicle.
  2. Connect the headlamp electrical connector to the forward lamp wiring harness.

  3. Object Number: 284806  Size: SH
  4. Position the outboard portion of the headlamp to the locator pin, in order to align the locator pin with the headlamp mounting bracket.
  5. Press the headlamp rearward in order to engage the locator pin with the headlamp mounting bracket.

  6. Object Number: 284581  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the two fasteners in order to secure the headlamp to the headlamp mounting bracket.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the headlamp mounting fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  9. Install the upper filler panel. Refer to Filler Panel Replacement - Upper in Body Front End.
  10. Close the hood.

Headlamp Replacement STS and SLS with TT6, TT7 or TT8

Removal Procedure

    Caution: The high intensity discharge system produces high voltage and current. To reduce the risk of severe shocks and burns:

       • Never open the high intensity discharge system ballast or the arc tube assembly starter.
       • Never probe between the high intensity discharge system ballast output connector and the arc tube assembly.

  1. Remove the low beam headlamp relay in order to disable the HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps. Refer to Headlamp Relay Replacement .
  2. Remove the upper filler panel. Refer to Filler Panel Replacement - Upper in Body Front End.
  3. Remove the (1) fasteners securing the headlamp (2) to the headlamp mounting bracket.

  5. Pull the headlamp assembly straight forward in order to disengage the locator pin at the outboard edge of the headlamp.

  6. Object Number: 672425  Size: SH
  7. Remove the arc tube and starter cover (1) from the headlamp assembly (2).

  8. Object Number: 672430  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the arc tube and starter (2) electrical connector (1).

  10. Object Number: 672438  Size: SH
  11. Carefully release the arc tube and starter cable (1) from the headlamp housing (2).

  12. Object Number: 284582  Size: SH
  13. Disconnect the headlamp electrical connector from the forward lamp wiring harness.
  14. Remove the headlamp housing assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Ensure the grommet attached to the arc tube and starter is properly installed and sealed to the headlamp assembly, in order to avoid water intrusion in the headlamp assembly.

  1. Install the arc tube and starter cable (1) to the headlamp housing (2).
  2. Ensure the arc tube and starter cable grommet is properly seated.

  3. Object Number: 672430  Size: SH
  4. Connect the arc tube and starter (2) electrical connector (1).
  5. Important: Ensure the arc tube and starter moisture cover is properly installed and sealed to the headlamp assembly in order to avoid water intrusion in the headlamp assembly.

  6. Install the arc tube and starter moisture cover (1) to the headlamp assembly (2).

  7. Object Number: 284582  Size: SH
  8. Connect the headlamp electrical connector to the forward lamp wiring harness.

  9. Object Number: 284806  Size: SH
  10. Position the outboard portion of the headlamp in order to align the locator pin with the headlamp mounting bracket.
  11. Press the headlamp rearward in order to engage the locator pin with the headlamp mounting bracket.
