Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 419645  Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  3. Remove the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws (2).
  4. Remove the lower steering column trim cover (1) from the steering column closeout shroud.

  6. Remove the wiring harness tie straps (2) from the steering column wiring harness.

  7. Object Number: 312291  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the tilt and telescope module electrical connectors (2).

  9. Object Number: 312302  Size: SH
  10. Open the lower wiring harness shield and remove the steering column wiring harness.
  11. Note the direction the steering column wiring harness is routed in the lower steering column wiring harness shield for re-installation.

  12. Remove the tilt and telescope switch from the lower steering column trim cover.

  13. Object Number: 577284  Size: SH
  14. Remove the upper steering column trim cover retaining screw.
  15. Remove the upper steering column trim cover (1) and closeout shroud from the steering column.
  16. Remove the steering column closeout shroud from the upper steering column trim cover.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 577284  Size: SH
  1. Install the steering column closeout shroud to the upper steering column trim cover.
  2. Install the upper steering column trim cover (1) and closeout shroud to the steering column.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the upper steering column trim cover retaining screw (2).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the upper steering column trim cover retaining screw to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  6. Install the tilt and telescope switch (2) to the lower steering column trim cover.

  7. Object Number: 312302  Size: SH
  8. Install the steering column wiring harness (2) to the lower wiring harness shield.

  9. Object Number: 312291  Size: SH
  10. Connect the tilt and telescope module electrical connectors (2).

  11. Object Number: 312287  Size: SH
  12. Install the wiring harness tie straps (2) to the steering column wiring harness.

  13. Object Number: 419645  Size: SH
  14. Install the lower steering column trim cover (1) to the steering column closeout shroud and upper steering column trim cover.
  15. Ensure that the tabs (2) on the lower steering column trim cover engage with the tabs on the upper steering column trim cover then snap them together.

  16. Install the lower steering column trim cover (2) retaining screws.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  18. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  19. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
