Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 301912  Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  3. Remove the steering column control module. Refer to Steering Column Control Module Replacement .
  4. Remove the steering column wiring harness tie straps (1 and 2).

  6. Open the lower steering column wire harness shield (1) and remove the steering column wire harness (2).
  7. Note the direction of the steering column wiring harness is routed in the lower steering column wiring harness shield for re-installation.

  8. Remove the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws (2).

  9. Object Number: 295138  Size: SH
  10. Remove the tilt actuator assembly retaining bolts.
  11. Remove the tilt actuator assembly.
  12. Remove the tilt actuator assembly ball stud.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 295138  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the tilt actuator assembly ball stud.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the tilt actuator assembly ball stud to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  3. Install the tilt actuator assembly.
  4. Install the tilt actuator assembly retaining bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the tilt actuator assembly retaining bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  6. Install the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws (2).

  7. Object Number: 301919  Size: SH
  8. Install the steering column wire harness (2) to the lower steering column wire harness shield (1).

  9. Object Number: 301912  Size: SH
  10. Install the steering column wire harness tie straps (2).
  11. Remove the steering column control module. Refer to Steering Column Control Module Replacement .
  12. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
