Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 602329  Size: SH
  1. Remove the engine sight shield retaining bolts and the engine sight shield.
  2. Disconnect the ignition control module electrical connector.
  3. Important: If the vehicle is equipped with secondary air injection (AIR), continue with step 3. If the vehicle is NOT equipped with AIR, continue with step 8

  4. Disconnect the AIR vent solenoid electrical connector (if equipped with AIR).
  5. Remove the AIR pipe to exhaust manifold bolts (if equipped with AIR).
  6. Disconnect the AIR system vacuum hoses. Be sure to mark the locations for proper installation (if equipped with AIR).
  7. Remove the AIR bracket to engine bolts (if equipped with AIR).
  8. Remove the AIR assembly (if equipped with AIR).

  9. Object Number: 602328  Size: SH
  10. Using the removal sequence, remove the ignition assembly retaining bolts.
  11. Carefully, remove the ignition assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 602329  Size: SH

    Important: Be sure the ignition assembly grounding spring and insulator are in place when installing the ignition assembly.

  1. Connect the spark plug boots to the spark plugs.
  2. Carefully, install the ignition assembly.

  3. Install the ignition assembly retaining bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Using the installation torque sequence, tighten the ignition assembly retaining bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: If the vehicle is equipped with secondary air injection (AIR), continue with step 3. If the vehicle is NOT equipped with AIR, continue with step 8

  5. Install the AIR assembly (if equipped with AIR).
  6. Install the AIR bracket to engine bolts (if equipped with AIR).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the AIR bracket to engine nut/bolts.

  8. Reconnect the AIR vacuum hoses (if equipped with AIR).
  9. Reconnect the AIR pipe to exhaust manifold bolts (if equipped with AIR).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the AIR pipe to exhaust manifold bolts.

  11. Reconnect the AIR vent solenoid electrical connector (if equipped with AIR).
  12. Reconnect the ignition assembly electrical connector.
  13. Install the engine sight shield and retaining bolts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the engine sight shield retaining bolts to 8 N·m (70 lb in).
