  1. Ensure that battery is fully charged.
  2. Remove the INJR1 and INJR2 fuses from the underhood junction block.
  3. Turn ignition switch to START position.
  4. Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the positive and negative battery terminals while cranking.
  5. Crank for at least 15 seconds, then read voltage.

Is the voltage greater than the specified value?

8 Volts

Go to Step 2

Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the negative battery terminal and the engine block while cranking for at least 15 seconds.

Is the voltage less than the specified value?

0.5 Volts

Go to Step 3

Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the positive battery terminal and the starter solenoid terminal B while cranking for at least 15 seconds.

Is the voltage less than the specified value?

0.5 Volts

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 8

Repair or replace the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Perform the battery load test, refer to Battery Load Test .

Does the battery pass the battery load test?

Inspect the battery and starter terminals for poor contact. If OK, repair or replace the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 10

  1. Clean the negative battery cable connections and measure the voltage between the negative battery terminal and the engine block while cranking for at least 15 seconds.
  2. If the voltage is greater than the specified value, replace the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Cable .

Is the replacement complete?

0.5 Volts

Go to Step 10

  1. Clean the positive battery cable connections and measure the voltage between the positive battery terminal and the starter solenoid terminal B while cranking for at least 15 seconds.
  2. If the voltage is greater than the specified value, replace the positive battery cable. Refer to Battery Cable .

Is the replacement complete?

0.5 Volts

Go to Step 10
