ILLUMINATED ENTRY MODULE IMPROVEMENT INFORMATION

PAST MODEL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ILLUMINATED ENTRY SYSTEMS CAN BE MODIFIED TO IMPROVE MODULE LIFE. FEEDBACK VOLTAGE, CAUSED BY A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH DISENGAGEMENT, MAY CAUSE A HIGH VOLTAGE SPIKE THROUGH THE MODULE CREATING HEAT. IMPROVEMENT CAN BE REALIZED BY INSTALLING A DIODE AT THE A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH COIL PER SCHEMATIC BELOW. DIODE CAN BE OBTAINED THROUGH GMWDD (GMPD) BY ORDERING P/N 12000169 (CONNECTOR MUST BE REMOVED). AN ADDITIONAL IMPROVEMENT CAN BE OBTAINED BY APPLYING ONE LAYER OF 3/4 INCH WIDE ADHESIVE-BACKED ALUMINUM FOIL TAPE (AVAILABLE AT MOST HARDWARE STORES) AROUND THE MODULE CASE (SHOWN BELOW) TO AID HEAT DISSIPATION.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
