DIC CIRCUIT BOARD SERVICE PROCEDURE AND UNIT REPAIR

DIGITAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CIRCUIT BOARD (INCLUDING PAST MODEL TRIP COMPUTER) SERVICE PROCEDURE (UNIT REPAIR)

Digital clusters are now serviceable with component parts available through GMWDD. Use the following procedure to disassemble clusters:

(For removal and installation procedures of the digital instrument cluster assembly from the vehicle, refer to the appropriate Service Manual, Section 8).

Removal of Digital Instrument Cluster Circuit Board

1. Depress trip data display shaft knob retaining clip and lift off knob; see Figs. 1 and 2. Note position of retaining clips for the reassembly. (This step is for trip computer models only. If 1981 cluster is involved, proceed to step 2.)

2. Depress odometer reset shaft knob retaining clip and lift off reset knob, Fig. 2.

3. Remove four #6 light filter retaining screws and lift off filters, Fig. 1.

4. Remove five 3/4 inch #6 dial screws and lift off lens. See Fig. 1.

5. Remove two 3/4 inch #6 shift indicator and retainer screws and lift off retainer. See Fig. 3.

6. Slide out shift indicator mechanism. (Note groove in shift indicator which fits slot in cluster case. ) See Fig. 4.

7. Remove 5/8 inch #6 dial circuit board and tube screws and lift out this assembly. See Fig. 4.

8. Remove 1/2 inch #6 dial screws and separate the dial from circuit board and tube assembly. See Figs. 5 and 6.

Installation of Circuit Board

1. Reassemble in reverse order.

In addition to the six figures shown in this bulletin, an exploded view of the instrument cluster assembly can be referred to on pages 9-52.2 and 9-53 of the 1981 GMWDD (GMPD) catalog.

For warranty purposes, use Operation No. R1505, Circuit Board and Tube Assembly - Replace, at 0.8 hour (Inc: R&R Digital Cluster).
