WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACEMENT TAPE DRIVE NOISE CORRECTION

WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACEMENT (ALL 1981 C AND K CARS) AND REGULATOR TAPE DRIVE CLICKING NOISE CORRECTION (ALL C AND K CARS)

TWO ITEMS DEALING WITH TAPE DRIVE WINDOW REGULATOR SYSTEMS ARE DETAILED BELOW: ONE COVERS SERVICE REPLACEMENT PARTS: THE OTHER COVERS A CLICKING NOISE CORRECTION.

WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACEMENT

AS A REMINDER, WINDOW REGULATORS ON 1981 C AND K MODEL CADILLACS NEED NOT BE REPLACED AS ASSEMBLIES WHEN ONLY COMPONENTS ARE DAMAGED. DRIVE TAPES, AS WELL AS OTHER REGULATOR COMPONENTS, ARE SERVICED AS INDIVIDUAL PARTS. SEE ILLUSTRATION BELOW. REPLACEMENT OF COMPLETE WINDOW REGULATORS IS NOT REQUIRED IN MOST INSTANCES. REMOVAL, INSTALLATION, AND ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES PERTAINING TO DOOR WINDOW SYSTEMS CAN BE FOUND IN THE DOOR PORTION OF THE FISHER BODY SERVICE MANUAL.

REGULATOR TAPE DRIVE CLICKING NOISE CORRECTION

ON A .1 C AND K CARS WITH TAPE DRIVE SYSTEMS, IF A CLICKING NOISE IS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT OR REAR DOOR WHEN RAISING THE DOOR GLASS, IT CAN BE CORRECTED BY PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS:

1. REMOVE TAPE FROM REGULATOR (SEE PAGE 5-61 AND 5-71 IN THE 1981 FISHER BODY SERVICE MANUAL).

2. INSPECT TAPE FOR ANY OBVIOUS DAMAGE (OTHER THAN BURRS) THAT COULD RESULT IN A NOISY CONDITION.

3. IF TAPE IS DAMAGED, REPLACE AS REQUIRED.

4. IF THERE IS NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE, TURN TAPE OVER (REVERSE SIDE "A" AND "B") AND REINSTALL INTO THE REGULATOR (SEE ILLUSTRATION ON REVERSE SIDE). TURNING THE TAPE OVER WILL CORRECT THE CONDITION BY PREVENTING THE DRIVE GEAR FROM CONTACTING SMALL BURRS WHICH ARE ONLY PRESENT ON ONE SIDE OF THE TAPE.

5. INSTALL PREVIOUSLY REMOVED PARTS.

FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES, USE: OPERATION NO. T0040 - FRONT DOOR A 0.5 HOUR AND OPERATION NO. T0041 - REAR DOOR AT 0.5 HOUR.
