ILLUMINATED ENTRY MODULE IMPROVEMENT INFORMATION

ILLUMINATED ENTRY MODULE IMPROVEMENT

Past model vehicles equipped with Illuminated Entry Systems can be modified to improve module life. Feedback voltage, caused by A/C compressor clutch disengagement, may cause a high voltage spike through the module creating heat. Improvement can be realized by installing a diode at the A/C compressor clutch coil per schematic below.

Diode can be obtained through GMWDD (GMPD) by ordering P/N 12000169 (connector must be removed).

An additional improvement can be obtained by applying one layer of 3/4 inch wide adhesive-backed aluminum foil tape (available at most hardware stores) around the module case (shown below) to aid heat dissipation.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
