OIL FILTER LEAKAGE PROPER INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

This installation information supersedes the 2/3 turn requirement specified on the oil, filter label, and in previous DSIB 90-I-12. Please discard DSIB 90-I-12.

To prevent leakage of the small 75mm oil filters such as PF-40, PF-45, PF-47, PF-51, etc. it is very important that the installation instructions given below are closely followed:

1. Remove old oil filter and clean gasket sealing area on engine oil filter mounting surface.

2. Lightly oil gasket with clean oil and install filter.

3. After the oil filter gasket contacts the oil filter adapter base, "TIGHTEN 3/4 TO ONE FULL TURN". When necessary, use a cap-type wrench, AC-Delco OF17W or equivalent, or a strap-type wrench to ensure proper installation.

4. With engine oil at proper level, run engine and thoroughly check filter area for leaks.

IMPORTANT: Be certain to follow replacement oil filter usage applications.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
