Master Cylinder Replacement LHD

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.

  1. With the engine OFF, apply and release the brake pedal several times until the pedal becomes firm to deplete the power vacuum brake booster vacuum reserve.
  2. Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.
  3. Remove the air inlet panel support bracket push nut from the master cylinder mounting stud.
  4. Carefully pull the air inlet panel support bracket outward and rotate the panel aside.

  6. Disconnect the master cylinder primary brake pipe fitting (1).
  7. Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the master cylinder outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  8. Disconnect the master cylinder secondary brake pipe fitting (1).
  9. Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the master cylinder outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  10. Remove the master cylinder nuts (1).

  11. Object Number: 2106623  Size: SH
  12. Remove the master cylinder (1) from the power vacuum brake booster.
  13. Inspect the master cylinder to power vacuum brake booster seal for damage and replace, if necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the master cylinder to power vacuum brake booster seal to the groove in the master cylinder body.
  2. Ensure the seal is positioned properly and is not deformed.

  3. If installing a new master cylinder, bench bleed the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding.

  4. Object Number: 2106623  Size: SH
  5. Install the master cylinder (1) to the power vacuum brake booster.
  6. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 2106621  Size: SH
  7. Install the master cylinder nuts (1) and tighten to  25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Object Number: 2106620  Size: SH
  9. Connect the master cylinder secondary brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten the fitting to  36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  10. Object Number: 2106619  Size: SH
  11. Connect the master cylinder primary brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten the fitting to  36 N·m (27 lb ft).
  12. Connect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.
  13. Rotate the air inlet panel and position the support bracket to the master cylinder mounting stud.
  14. Install the air inlet panel support bracket push nut.
  15. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.

Master Cylinder Replacement RHD

Removal Procedure

  4. Disconnect the master cylinder primary brake pipe fitting (1).
  5. Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the master cylinder outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  6. Disconnect the master cylinder secondary brake pipe fitting (1).
  7. Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the master cylinder outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  8. Remove the master cylinder nuts (1).

  10. Remove the master cylinder (1) from the power vacuum brake booster.
  11. Inspect the master cylinder to power vacuum brake booster seal for damage and replace, if necessary.

  7. Install the master cylinder nuts (1) and tighten to  25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Connect the master cylinder secondary brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten the fitting to  36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  10. Object Number: 2103762  Size: SH
  11. Connect the master cylinder primary brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten the fitting to  36 N·m (27 lb ft).
  12. Connect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.
  13. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.
