Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the accessory drive belts. Refer to Generator Drive Belt Replacement and to Water Pump and Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement.
  2. Remove the mechanical fan adapter, if equipped. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Bracket Replacement.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.

  4. Object Number: 1690149  Size: SH
  5. Remove transmission bell housing inspection hole cover.
  6. Install the EN-48018 flywheel holding tool as shown.

  7. Object Number: 928046  Size: SH
  8. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.

  9. Object Number: 1346204  Size: SH
  10. Place the J 38416-2 crankshaft button into the end of the crankshaft.
  11. Install the J 24420-C on the crankshaft balancer.

  12. Object Number: 928051  Size: SH
  13. Remove the crankshaft balancer using the J 24420-C .
  14. Clean and inspect the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Cleaning and Inspection.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 928051  Size: SH
  1. Position the crankshaft balancer on the nose of the crankshaft.

  2. Object Number: 948118  Size: SH
  3. Press the crankshaft balancer in place using the J 41998-B .

  4. Object Number: 928046  Size: SH
  5. Clean the crankshaft balancer bolt threads.
  6. Apply engine oil to the crankshaft balancer bolt threads.
  7. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  8. Install the crankshaft balancer bolt.
  9. • First Pass
    • Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
    • Final Pass
    • Tighten the bolt an additional 120 degrees using the J 45059 .

  10. Remove the EN-48018 .
  11. Install the transmission bell housing inspection hole cover.
  12. Install the mechanical fan adapter, if equipped. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Bracket Replacement.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Install the accessory drive belts. Refer to Generator Drive Belt Replacement and to Water Pump and Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement.
