DTC Descriptor

DTC B1001 00: SDM Option Configuration Error

Circuit/System Description

The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) stores the vehicles restraint ID from the vehicle identification number (VIN) and the last 4 digits of the SDM part number. When the ignition is turned ON, the SDM compares this information to the information stored in the instrument panel module (IPM) over the serial data communication circuit. If there is a mismatch between the information stored in the SDM and body control module (BCM), DTC B1001 will set.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The last 4 digits of the SDM part number does not match the last 4 digits stored in the BCM.
    • The VIN stored in the IPM does not match that of the vehicle.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The SDM commands ON the AIR BAG warning lamp via GMLAN serial data.
    • The SDM disables all deployments.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The last 4 digits of the SDM part number match the last 4 digits stored in the IPM.
    • The restraints ID that is stored in the SDM matches the restraints ID that is stored in the IPM.

Diagnostic Aids

This DTC is an indication that an incorrect SDM is installed in the vehicle, or that the SDM and/or the IPM was replaced without reprogramming the IPM with the new information.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition ON, use the scan tool to request SIR DTCs. Verify that DTC B1001 is set as current.
  2. If DTC B1001 is history, clear codes and recheck.
  3. Using the scan tool check the IPM that is programmed with the VIN. Verify that the IPM is programmed with the correct VIN number with the vehicle VIN plate.
  4. If the IPM has the wrong VIN number, refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration for programming.
  5. Using the scan tool perform the Setup SDM Part Number into IPM procedure.
  6. With the ignition ON, use the scan tool to clear the DTCs. Verify that DTC B1001 is cleared.
  7. If DTC B1001 was current, replace the SDM.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
