Circuit Description

The individual power window switches are monitored and controlled by the front and rear door modules. Each passenger door window switch is mounted to the trim panel of the appropriate passenger door. When a passenger window switch is operated, the switch contacts close and the associated door control module detects ground as a specific request to move the window up or down. If conditions are correct for window operation to occur, the door control module communicates the up/down command to the power window motor and the power window motor moves the window to the desired position. For more detailed information concerning power window operation refer to Power Windows Description and Operation .

DTC Descriptors

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTCs:

    • DTC B3160 Window Up Switch Circuit
    • DTC B3165 Window Down Switch Circuit

This vehicle has DTCs which include DTC symptoms. For more information on DTC symptoms, refer to DTC Symptom Description .

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The PDM, LRDM, or RRDM must be powered.
    • DTC B1325 Battery Voltage Out of Range, must not be current.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The PDM, LRDM, or RRDM detects that the window switch has been closed for 30 continuous seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • When DTC B3160 is current, the appropriate door module will ignore actuation of the WINDOW UP and WINDOW DOWN inputs.
    • When DTC B3165 is current, the appropriate door module will ignore actuation of the WINDOW DOWN input.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The door control module does not detect the failure for 6 consecutive seconds.
    • You issue a scan tool CLEAR DTCs command.
    • A history DTC will clear once 40 consecutive malfunction free ignition cycles have occurred.

Diagnostic Aids

Thoroughly inspect the wiring and connectors. An incomplete inspection of the wiring and connectors may result in misdiagnosis causing part replacement with the reappearance of the malfunction. If an intermittent malfunction exists, refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .
