HUD Diagnostic System Check assumes the technician checked that the HUD battery voltage circuit is good.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Disconnect the head up display (HUD) Switch.
  2. Turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a DMM between the HUD image dimming signal circuit and a good ground.

Does the DMM display at or near 5 volts?

Go to Step 3

Connect a DMM between the HUD switch low reference circuit and battery voltage.

Does the DMM display at or near current battery voltage?

Go to Step 4

  1. Connect a DMM between the HUD image dimming signal circuit and the HUD switch low reference circuit.
  2. Measure the resistance while varying the dimming intensity with the dimming switch.
  3. Observe the displays on the DMM.

Does the resistance change smoothly between 2kohms-10kohms?

Test the HUD image dimming signal circuit for an open, for a high resistance, or for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the HUD switch low reference circuit for an open or for a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the HUD Switch. Refer to Head Up Display Switch Replacement .
