Generator Replacement LH2 (All Wheel Drive)

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 887719  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Remove the generator drive belt. Refer to Generator Drive Belt Replacement.
  3. Remove the upper generator mounting bolts (1, 3).
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  5. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement.

  7. Remove the front wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  8. Remove the right side wheelhouse liner. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement - Right Side.
  9. Remove the right and left side stabilizer shaft links at the lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement.
  10. Rotate the stabilizer shaft downward to gain access to the generator and to create a removal envelop for generator removal.
  11. Perform the remainder of the removal process through the wheelhouse opening.
  12. Cut the tie strap securing the wiring harness to the generator.

  14. Remove the lower generator mounting bolt.
  15. Lift the generator off of the mounting bracket in order to gain access to the connector and the generator output BAT terminal nut.
  16. Disconnect the wire harness electrical connector from the generator.
  17. Reposition the protective boot from the generator output battery terminal for access.
  18. Remove the generator output battery terminal nut and disconnect the battery positive lead from the generator.
  19. Remove the generator from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the generator near the installed position.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Connect the battery positive lead to the generator and install the generator output battery terminal nut.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Press the protective boot on to the generator output BAT terminal.
  6. Connect the wiring harness connector to the generator.
  7. Position the generator to the generator bracket on the engine.
  8. Install the lower generator mounting bolt, but do not tighten at this time.

  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Install the upper generator mounting bolts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  13. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.

  14. Object Number: 874639  Size: SH
  15. Install a new tie strap to secure the wiring harness to the generator.
  16. Install the right and left side stabilizer shaft links to the lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement.
  17. Install the right side wheelhouse liner. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement - Right Side.
  18. Install the front wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  19. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement.
  20. Lower the vehicle.
  21. Install the generator drive belt. Refer to Generator Drive Belt Replacement.
  22. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

Generator Replacement LH2 (Rear Wheel Drive)

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 887719  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Remove the generator drive belt. Refer to Generator Drive Belt Replacement.
  3. Remove the upper generator mounting bolts (1, 3).
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  5. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement.
  6. Cut the tie strap securing the wiring harness to the generator.

  8. Remove the lower generator mounting bolt.
  9. Lift the generator off of the mounting bracket in order to gain access to the connector and the generator output BAT terminal nut.
  10. Disconnect the wire harness electrical connector from the generator.
  11. Reposition the protective boot from the generator output battery terminal for access.
  12. Remove the generator output battery terminal nut and disconnect the battery positive lead from the generator.
  13. Remove the generator from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the generator near the installed position.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  8. Install the lower generator mounting bolt, but do not tighten at this time.

  14. Install a new tie strap to secure the wiring harness to the generator.
  15. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
  17. Install the generator drive belt. Refer to Generator Drive Belt Replacement.
  18. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

Generator Replacement LY7

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Remove the drive belt from the generator. Refer to Water Pump and Generator Belt Replacement.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.

  4. Object Number: 887703  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the generator.
  6. Reposition the protective boot from the generator output BAT terminal for access.
  7. Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut (3) and disconnect the battery positive lead (2) from the generator.

  8. Object Number: 887706  Size: SH
  9. Remove the generator lower bolts.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Remove the generator upper bolt.
  12. Remove the generator from the engine.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the generator to the engine.
  2. Install the generator upper bolt.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  4. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Install the generator lower bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  7. Install the battery positive lead (2) and the generator BAT terminal nut (3) to the generator.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Install the BAT terminal boot.
  10. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the generator.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Install the drive belt to the generator. Refer to Water Pump and Generator Belt Replacement.
  13. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
