Removal Procedure

Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Failure to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.

  1. Remove the brake caliper from the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement.

  2. Object Number: 756418  Size: SH

    Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  3. Support the brake caliper (1) with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent. Do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper.

  5. Remove the brake pads (2) from the brake caliper bracket (3).
  6. Remove the brake pad retainers (1) from the brake caliper bracket (3).

  7. Object Number: 1200896  Size: SH
  8. Remove the brake caliper guide pins (3).
  9. Remove the brake caliper pin boots (2) from the brake caliper mounting bracket (1).

  10. Object Number: 756937  Size: SH
  11. Remove the brake caliper bracket mounting bolts (2).
  12. Remove the brake caliper bracket (1) from the knuckle.
  13. Inspect the brake caliper bracket (1). Refer to Front Disc Brake Hardware Replacement.
  14. Replace the brake caliper bracket if cracked or damaged.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 756937  Size: SH
  1. Install the brake caliper bracket (1) to the knuckle.
  2. Important: If reusing the caliper bracket bolts the threads of the caliper bracket bolts and the threads of the knuckle mounting holes must be free of residue and debris prior to application of threadlocker in order to ensure proper adhesion and fastener retention.

  3. Prepare the bolts and the threaded holes for assembly:
  4. 2.1. Thoroughly clean the residue from the bolt threads by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    2.2. Thoroughly clean the residue from the threaded holes by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    2.3. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canada P/N 10953488), or equivalent to 2/3 of the threaded length of the lower caliper bracket bolts. Ensure that there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the bolts.
    2.4. Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installation.

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the 2 brake caliper bracket bolts (2).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the front brake caliper bracket bolts to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).

    Important: 

       • Ensure that the caliper guide pin boots (2) are fully seated to the caliper guide pin retaining seat (3) of the caliper guide pin.
       • Ensure that the caliper guide pin boots (2) are fully seated to the caliper boot seal retaining seat (1) of the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  7. Install the caliper guide pin boots (2) to the brake caliper mounting bracket retaining seat (1).

  8. Object Number: 1200896  Size: SH
  9. Install the caliper guide pins (1) to the caliper mounting bracket (3).
  10. Ensure the caliper guide pin retaining seat is fully seated to the caliper pin boot (2).

  11. Carefully pull outward on the caliper guide pin (3) to ensure that the caliper guide pin retaining seat is fully seated to the caliper guide pin boot (2).

  13. Install the brake pad retainers (1) to the brake caliper bracket (3).
  14. Install the brake pads (2) to the brake caliper bracket (3).
  15. Install the brake caliper (1) to the front brake caliper bracket (2). Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement.
