DTC Descriptor

DTC B2494: Liftgate Handle Switch Circuit

Diagnostic Fault Information

Important: Always perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description

The liftgate module initiates a liftgate event based on an input provided by the liftgate handle switch. Power is supplied to the switch from the liftgate module via the liftgate handle switch open signal circuit. When the handle is activated, the switch closes, providing a ground path for the signal circuit through the liftgate handle switch low reference circuit.

Conditions for Running the DTC

An input is seen from the liftgate handle switch.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The liftgate module continuously sees a liftgate handle switch input for longer than 10 minutes.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The liftgate module will disable the liftgate handle switch input for the duration of the fault.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

A fault is not longer seen or a scan tool is used to clear the DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

A liftgate handle switch stuck in the closed position will cause DTC B2494 to set.

Circuit/System Verification

Activate the liftgate handle, the liftgate should open.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the liftgate module.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit and ground.
  3. If less than infinite resistance, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
  4. Test or replace the liftgate module.

Component Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the liftgate handle switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal and the low reference circuit terminal.
  3. If less than infinite resistance, replace the liftgate handle switch.

Repair Instructions
